So you’ve just paid a pretty penny for some gorgeous vintage wear, so what do you do? A) Hang it up and put it amongst your regular clothes B) Leave it on the floor and pick it up on the way out C) Take our tips and keep your clothes for longer. On that note, we’ve got 5 simple tips that only require just a little bit of effort and a lot of rewards…
- Keep fabrics out of sunlight. This is because the sun fades and breaks down fibres, you may love the sun but your clothes certainly won’t!
- Don’t store your items in plastic bag; allow your garments to ‘breathe’ by using muslin bags or acid free tissue and boxes.
- Use padded hangers when hanging up your clothes for extra protection and whatever you do steer clear of metal and wood hangers, the acid for the materials may cause staining and those are all your lovely pennies down the drain…
- Steam your silks, wools and synthetics as they are less harsh on these materials, save the ironing for the more ‘stubborn’ materials such as cotton and linen
- If you are unsure about how to wash a fabric, take it to the dry cleaners – they will clean it and they may just tell you how to deal with it in future, putting on a standard 40, may seem like the easy option but not when you can no longer get the item over your head, do it now and save the heartache.
